Blomsma optimizes the safety signage for Western Isles FPSO

Geplaatst op 24 May 2017

Blomsma Signs & Safety has started updating and reorganizing the safety signage of the Western Isles FPSO for Dana Petroleum Ltd.

The Western Isles FPSO (floating production storage and offloading unit) weighs 32,000 tons. It was built by Cosco Shipyards in China and dispatched to the Keppel Verolme works at Rozenburg. The final construction activities will be completed there before it is towed to its final position about 160 kilometres east of the Shetlands, where it will produce oil from the Harris and Barra fields.

Dana Petroleum has asked Blomsma Signs & Safety to sort out the safety signage during the brief period while the Western Isles FPSO is in port at Rotterdam so that it complies with current legislation and regulations. The latest ISO standards will be used to set up a consistent and complete system for various components.

The project started work on the safety signage and escape route guidance system in the accommodation unit of the FPSO. A combination of ISO standards 7010 and 24409 (for the use of safety symbols) plus 15370 will be used for implementing a consistent, complete and understandable signage system. The safety instructions with an integrated overview of the escape routes and a measurement report for the escape route guidance system will be realized during the brief stop.

The key elements of the signage in the process areas will be optimized. This includes realization of escape route signage with both primary and secondary escape routes being marked. The signage will be made of durable materials that can withstand the extreme weathering and effects of salt water in an offshore environment.
