The historic transformation of Porthos P18 platform for the Porthos project marks a new chapter in the energy transition.
The energy transition in the North Sea has reached another major milestone. Blomsma Signs & Safety, a pioneer and trusted specialist in offshore safety signage for decades, has been awarded the contract for the complete engineering and installation of the safety signage plan and pipe identification system on Porthos P18 platform.
The platform will be used by Porthos for its groundbreaking Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) project. This marks the first time a former gas production platform in the Dutch North Sea will be fully equipped with a modern safety signage system specifically designed for CO₂ storage operations.
Having built a strong reputation for improving safety on offshore oil and gas production platforms, Blomsma has increasingly shifted its focus towards offshore wind farm substations in recent years. Now, with CCS technology gaining momentum, the industry is taking another significant step towards a carbon-neutral future.
“We see the world around us changing, and we’re changing with it,” says Brian Lenos, Director of Commercial Strategy at Blomsma Signs & Safety. Being able to contribute our expertise to the very first CCS platform in the Dutch sector of the North Sea is something we’re incredibly proud of. The Porthos project is making history, and with our safety signage system, we’re helping ensure that the people working on the platform can do their jobs safely.”

Offshore platforms operate in some of the toughest environments imaginable. Safety signage must withstand extreme weather conditions, salt exposure, strong winds and UV radiation.
That’s why our safety signage systems don’t just meet current regulations and industry standards, they’re also built to last. This approach fits perfectly with the sustainability ambitions of the companies involved.
For pipe identification on the platform, Blomsma Signs & Safety will use high-quality, durable PolyesPro® materials. All reflective and photoluminescent safety signage will be produced using our robust SafeSign™ products.
Together, these solutions ensure maximum durability, long service life and excellent visibility, even in demanding offshore conditions.
Work will begin immediately, ensuring that the upgraded P18 platform is fully equipped with safety signage that complies with all applicable regulations and standards, ready for the safe injection and storage of CO₂.
