Blomsma Signs & Safety has been contracted by HES International to realize the pipe marking for the new HES Hartel Tank Terminal (HHTT). The implementation of the pipe marking has been done carefully according to the international standard ISO 20560-1. The markings are placed at strategic positions in order to make them as efficient as possible. This prevents an excessive amount of markings and thus keeps the overall information on site clear and comprehensive. High-quality PolyesPro® pipe marking is used for this project to guarantee quality and lifespan.
The scope of the project for the HES Hartel Tank Terminal included:
Starting points for the project with regard to laws and regulations:
The primary objective of the project was to provide the HES Hartel Tank Terminal with durable pipe marking in accordance with ISO 20560-1 and the Dutch Working Decree. ISO 20560-1 is an international standard that describes the safety information for above-ground piping systems in relation to their contents and additional hazards in order to prevent incidents and calamities.
By installing PoleysPro® pipe marking on strategic positions we create an unambiguous and consistent overview of pipe marking on site. The high-quality PoleysPro® films were specifically chosen for this project because of the industrial environment and the location in the coastal area.
Installing the PoleysPro® pipe marking on strategic positions prevents kilometers of piping with markings on unnecessary and illogical positions. This allows us to create an unambiguous and consistent overview of the pipe markings. The high-quality film sandwich of PoleysPro® was selected carefully for this project, taking the industrial environment and the coastal area into account.
Practical choices were made for pipelines with multiple functions, the so-called Multipurpose pipelines. Storage tanks can be filled with different media. To avoid having to continuously adapt these pipe markings, we looked at similarities of the hazards and properties of the medium groups through these multipurpose pipes. By translating and depicting this on pipe marking we managed to meet the legal framework requirements. Process-technical information that operators and maintenance services need for the identification and function of the pipelines in question is displayed. An example of this is the ‘TO’ description on the marking.
Installation was accomplished under the supervision of an assigned project engineer by Blomsma 3M™ Certified Safety Sign Installers™. The HHTT pipe marking project was completed in a safe way, without any incidents.
