The ships in the fleet of Dredging company de Boer from Sliedrecht have had a fluorescent skin on the bow, stern and wheelhouse for years. The current fluorescent color was completely discolored, so it was time for renewal. This time, the dredging company opted for a fluorescent wrap! It was Blomsma’s job to apply this fluorine wrap to the awning of the wheelhouse.
Fluorine is the distinctive color of Dredging Company De Boer, which is used alongside grey and white as a corporate identity element. The reflective parts ensure that the ships are seen more quickly by other ships while working in channels and ports, for example.
The fluorine-colored parts were usually executed in multiple layers of paint. Unfortunately, the fragile fluorine pigment does not have a long life and discoloration quickly occurs. Customer research for a maintenance-free solution quickly led to a form of high quality self-adhesive vinyl. Partly because of the history that both companies already have with each other in the field of signing and safety signage, Dredging Company De Boer chose to have this assignment carried out by Blomsma. Blomsma already has the necessary experience in the field of wheelhouse sunroof marking.
The first vessel, the Lesse, was fitted by us with fluorine wrap high-grade self-adhesive vinyl from 3M with an expected life span of at least 2 years. In addition to a longer life span, the film has the important advantage that the installation time is much shorter. This allows the ship to sail out again more quickly.
In a paint system, the discoloration under the influence of UV radiation is faster and not uniform, in addition, it also shows the marks of painting. The reflective fluorine foil will also show discoloration after 2 years, but this will be an even change.
Both Dredging company de Boer and Blomsma are satisfied with the collaboration and the final result.
