Regional Water Authority ‘Hoogheemraadschap van Delfland’ engaged Blomsma Signs & Safety in 2018 to provide its sewage treatment plants and pumping stations with safety signage. A regional water authority is a decentralised public body that can be compared to provinces and local municipalities. It is an independent organisation with defined legal responsibilities and a self-supporting financial system.
The objective of Hoogheemraadschap van Delfland was to provide the sewage plants and pumping stations with safety signage, which are prescribed by law and contribute to the safety of employees, visitors, contractors, environment and emergency services. From an inventory, in which a list is made of the required and present safety signage, a signage plan is made with a scope detailing and a project plan.
Based on the signage plan, EU Directive 92-58, Working Conditions Provisions and relevant ISO and NEN standards, the two sewage water treatment plants and all 16 pumping stations have been fitted with the entire spectrum of safety signage: escape route signs, evacuation plans, fire-fighting and rescue equipment signs, pipe markings, (3D) EX zone impression signs and composite signs. Blomsma also provided the regular wayfinding for these locations.
The scope of the project includes the project engineering, the creation of the layouts, the production of the signage, installation and removal of old signage. A maintenance program was also initiated from the implementation project with an annual inspection and repair cycle.
To ensure high quality and maximum durability, 3M™ materials were used and installation was performed by a team of Blomsma 3M™ Certified Safety Sign Installers™.
Hoogheemraadschap van Delfland is one of the 21 regional water authorities in the Netherlands. The area in which Delfland performs its tasks is bordered by the North Sea, the Nieuwe Waterweg and the line Berkel en Rodenrijs, Zoetermeer and Wassenaar. On these 41,000 hectares almost 1.4 million people live and work and some 40,000 companies are located. This makes the Delfland area one of the most densely populated and industrialized areas of the Netherlands. The area is also known for its intensive greenhouse farming.
