Delamine, located on the Chemistry Park Delfzijl, has called in Blomsma Signs & Safety to mark and sign the ‘Orange zone areas’, loading bays and explosion hazardous (EX) areas and further to provide the entire site with traffic signs and wayfinding signage.
"If you don't clearly state what the rules are, you can't enforce them. Now you can," says Delamine’s safety expert Jos Detollenaere with pride. He looked at various companies in and around the Chemistry Park Delfzijl. On the basis of best practices, he drew up a design plan that was worked out with Blomsma, a company specializing in safety signage" - Chemistry Park Delfzijl.
Delamine’s objective was to provide the site with safety signage that is required by law and contributes to the safety of employees, visitors, contractors, the environment and emergency services. In concrete terms, Delamine wanted to update the visual display of safety and traffic rules on site and provide more guidance for all traffic flows.
Based on the sign plan, the European Directive 92/58/EEC, Dutch Working Conditions Decree (Chapter 8) and relevant ISO and NEN standards, Blomsma Signs & Safety has provided the Orange Zones with large, clearly visible composite signs that communicate the rules that apply there on the principle that ‘less is more’. By using uniform, harmonized safety symbols, the amount of text was reduced to a minimum. To increase the control of the traffic flows, the site is equipped with traffic signs and wayfinding signage.
The hazardous areas (EX or ATEX zones) are marked by means of custom designed flip-over signs, a solution which we also use for temporary barrier markings on decks on offshore platforms during lifting operations. This enables to temporarily remove the EX-zone marking after de-classification by simply flipping the sign during Turn Arounds. These types of signs are even suitable for locking with a LoTo (lockout tagout) system.
The scope of the project includes the development and design of the sign plan, project engineering, design of the layouts, production of all signage and the on-site installation. As with any signage project, all signage produced by Blomsma is provided with unique item numbers for layout management and for future signage maintenance purposes.
To ensure high quality and maximum durability, 3M™ materials were applied and installation was performed by a team of Blomsma 3M™ Certified Safety Sign Installers™.
