Access signs as the starting point of a safety signage system

They are often unmissable when entering a location or site: access signs. Equipped with instructions, safety symbols, signage and corporate identity features. The access sign provides the general framework for the applicable safety rules and warnings and is the starting point of a consistent safety information system and therefore the starting point of communication to the visitor.

The access sign is an essential part of safety signage, where thoughtful use of the number of safety symbols, references, use of colour and logos and typeface is necessary to achieve good information transfer. In addition to design, reading distance and the resulting ratio and size of symbols and text is a determining factor. When access signs are designed and realised from a starting point of philosophy, further signage at the location/site can easily be expanded. Standards such as ISO/TS 20559 (Guideline for the design and use of a safety signage system) and ISO 28564 (Public information systems) are valuable aids to planning. Especially for a recognizable and harmonised access sign and signage system.

Visual identity

Safety rules are displayed on it, but in order to promote the connection with the site, the visual identity (corporate identity) of the company must be integrated into the design.
